A tearful Capitol Hill testimony against transgender athletes turned heated Wednesday when the witness pushed back against Democrat rhetoric.
Former women’s college champion Riley Gaines spoke to the Senate Judiciary Committee, voicing her opposition to biological males on women’s teams. Gaines formerly swam against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas.
The debate grew heated when Gaines challenged Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who had previously said hateful rhetoric from politicians sent the wrong message to gender dysphoric youth.
The senator evaded the question, instead arguing there was “no evidence” trans-women perform better than biological females. But the Sports Equality Group shows trans-women have a retained advantage, even with testosterone suppression.
