Attorney General Merrick Garland may face impeachment after the most recent whistleblower allegations.
IRS whistleblower Gary Shapely claims that the DOJ protected Hunter Biden by interfering with the investigation. But Shapely’s story contradicts the Attorney General.
While Garland says U.S. Attorney David Weiss had the ultimate authority, the whistleblower says Weiss was never given special counsel status. This means he couldn’t place charges against Biden back in October like he planned to do.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy says the clear disparities need to be reconciled, which might lead to an impeachment inquiry.
McCarthy also wants answers from Weiss, who now claims it was his decision not to press charges. But Garland isn’t the only one in the hot seat.
FBI Director Christopher Wray is also accused of mishandling the Biden investigation. He will testify before the House Judiciary Committee next month.
