The culture war has resulted in the release of Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass.

Two weeks ago, Bass reposted a video on his Instagram account from a Christian influencer calling for believers to avoid spending money on Bud Light or at Target. The video drew lots of backlash, which resulted in him eventually pulling it down and issuing an apology. But it wasn’t enough.

Even after his apology, Blue Jays fans booed Bass when he took the mound later in the week. The higher-ups at the Toronto franchise then decided to put Bass on “designated assignment” – essentially cutting him from their 40-man roster.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins indicated this decision was due to Bass’ performance on the field but said that “the distraction” wasn’t helping.
