All the world is watching as Secretary of State Antony Blinken is making steps to stabilize U.S. ties with China. But now in an effort do so, Blinken is dismissing the seriousness of the infamous spy balloon incident.
His comments echo that of President Joe Biden, who suggested earlier this week that the intelligence-gathering incursion might have been “unintentional.”
The secretary has also spent his diplomatic visit clarifying the U.S. policy on Taiwan, “we do not support Taiwan independence, and we remain opposed to any unilateral changes to the status quo by either side.”
But the comment is an abrupt departure from previous months, where U.S. officials met with Taiwanese leaders despite China’s firm opposition.
