Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson is reportedly in talks with former President Donald Trump about hosting a Republican primary debate.

Carlson is still under contract with Fox until the end of 2024, despite parting ways with the network last week. But a source close to Carlson told the Washington Post he is willing to break his contract – a move that would cost him millions of dollars – to pursue his next project.

According to the Post, Carlson has spoken with Trump about hosting a debate. Trump might skip the first two Republican primary debates because they will be moderated by Fox News Host Bret Baier, the New York Times reports. Trump is reportedly angry at Baier for rejecting his claim that the 2020 election was stolen.

In his first video statement since leaving Fox, Carlson commented on “how unbelievably stupid most of the debates you see on television are,” saying that the “undeniably big topics” are never discussed in the media.

“War, civil liberties, emerging science, demographic change, corporate power, natural resources. When was the last time you heard a legitimate debate about any of those issues? It’s been a long time,” Carlson said.
