Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza traded scathing releases last week after a person arrested at the Texas Capitol for allegedly attacking a state trooper was set free.
Paxton blames Garza, but Garza’s office blames a magistrate judge for the failure of a felony arrest to proceed.
“Within hours, Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza dropped the charges,” Paxton said in a statement.
Jose Garza is a rogue District Attorney who is endangering the safety of law enforcement officers by signaling that violence against them will not be punished as long as an assailant shares Garza’s extremist political views. His contempt for the law risks encouraging more violent acts, especially against law enforcement officers and legislators. Garza’s indifference to political violence is a threat to public safety and an attempt to intimidate those who disagree with his extremist agenda.
But Garza’s office said the matter was out of their control.
“A Magistrate Judge determined that this arrest lacked probable cause and rejected the charge. The Travis County District Attorney’s Office had no involvement in this case,” a release from the Travis County District Attorney’s Office reads.
Garza later said, “This is yet another example of state leadership commenting on a criminal case in Travis County and getting the facts wrong.”
This is not the first time Garza has drawn the anger of Republicans. In 2022, he drew national attention for charging 19 Austin police officers with using excessive force. In April, Garza clashed with both Paxton and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott after a former Army sergeant was found guilty of murder after he opened fire on a Black Lives Matter protestor.
TRANS ACTIVISTS IN AUSTIN
Tempers in Austin have run high lately as the state senate considers S.B. 14, which would make it illegal for minors to receive hormone blockers or undergo gender-transition surgery.
Trans activists have descended upon the Texas house, and not all are there to be peaceful. Beyond the alleged attack on a trooper, activists caused such an uproar during a legislative session that the House chamber had to be cleared.
“Rules matter in the Texas House,” House Speaker Dade Phelan said Tuesday. “Today’s [Tuesday] outbursts in the gallery were a breach of decorum and continued after I warned that such behaviors would not be tolerated. There will always be differing perspectives, but in our chamber, we will debate those differences with respect.”
Paxton has urged the Texas legislature to “demonstrate that they will not be intimidated and immediately pass Senate Bill 14 to ban acts of child abuse such as so-called ‘gender transitioning’ surgical procedures and prescribing puberty-blocking drugs for minors.”
The matter of children’s access to gender-transitioning services is one for which Paxton has an immense deal of energy. He recently launched an investigation into Dell Children’s Medical Center, a Texas facility that he believes might have performed gender-transition procedures on minors.
“It is now alarmingly common for fringe activists to use their positions in medicine and health care to force experimental, life-altering procedures onto children,” Paxton said.
Across the country, there are doctors and health care professionals who appear willing to sacrifice the long-term health of American children, all in service to the increasingly dangerous fad of ‘transgender’ extremism. It is deeply disturbing, and there is no place for it in Texas. Along these lines, there have been a number of recent reports about potentially illegal activity at Dell Children’s Medical Center, and this investigation aims to uncover the truth.
