Iran has rejected a concealed interim nuclear agreement according to experts from within the White House.
The Biden administration has been pushing for deal that would offer some sanctions relief in exchange for an agreement to not enrich uranium past 60%. According to Axios, discussions with European and Israeli partners began in February.
The White House is becoming more and more concerned with Tehran’s nuclear progress.
A UN watchdog group disclosed that they had found some uranium particles that were enriched beyond 80% at a recent inpsection.
The Biden administration has looked to return to an Obama-era agreement that would limit nuclear developments, but negotiations have so far proved unproductive. Iran balked at the idea of allowing inspections of undeclared nuclear development sites.
Meanwhile, Israel recently warned they would strike Iran if the country pushed any closer to securing weapons-grade uranium. The international atomic agency’s director-general has warned that Iran has enough uranium to produce “several” nuclear bombs
As Iran inches closer to nuclear weapon capability, international tensions are at an all time high. However, one national security spokesperson said President Biden still believes diplomacy is the best approach.
