A House resolution that supports Israeli ties passed with heavy bipartisan support, but a notable group of Representatives voted against it.
This week marked the 75th anniversary of Israel’s independence, and the resolution is traditionally introduced around every fifth anniversary.
It simply supports greater cooperation between Washington and Tel Aviv and supports Israel’s involvement on the world stage. This year’s resolution, introduced by Representative Ann Wagner, also encourages the expansion of the Abraham Accords.
401 representatives approved the bill. But 18 Democrats and Republican Congressman Thomas Massie voted against it. Massie said it didn’t make sense to vote yes to a bill praising foreign aid he has consistently voted against for a decade.
Meanwhile, all but one of those 18 Democrats are members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus which routinely criticizes Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.
