House Republicans are saying accountability is needed after accusations that the Department of Education misused pandemic education funding.

Congress designated $189 billion of pandemic relief for education purposes in 2020. These funds were meant to address historic learning loss or to help schools reopen safely.

But the three Republicans leading the investigation – James Comer, Virginia Foxx, and Brad Wenstrup – say states waste misappropriated funds.

They accuse the Department of wasting taxpayer money by allowing Democrat-led states to promote “radical, left-wing agendas.”

For example, a Massachusetts school spent nearly $57,000 in pandemic funds for a principal to be coached on how to use a racial slur.

The representatives say funding the woke agenda is even more destructive to American schoolchildren suffering from pandemic-era learning loss.

They are now calling for Education Secretary Miquel Cardona to provide documentation on how funds were administered.
