In the latest update to the TikTok saga – Last week Montana lawmakers voted to completely ban the Chinese owned app, becoming the first state to do so.
If signed into law it would bar app stores from offering TikTok for download to users in Montana. TikTok and app store owners, Google and Apple would also face fines if they violate the ban. Although It is not clear how the state would enforce the ban.
Montana’s AG recently warned about TikTok spying on its users.
The bill now heads to the desk of Montana Governor Greg Gianforte TikTok responded in stating: “We will continue to fight for TikTok users and creators in Montana whose livelihoods and First Amendment rights are threatened by this egregious government overreach.”
