Montana continues to be in the middle of the national debate on what counts as acceptable civil discourse.

State representatives voted yesterday to ban Zooey Zephyr from participating in debates for the remainder of the session, which ends in May. The 68 to 32 vote was along party lines and allows the representative to still vote remotely on bills.

Last week, the openly-transgender lawmaker called Republicans child torturers and murderers for wanting to pass a bill that bans gender-transitioning for minors. Republicans voted to silence Zephyr’s microphone until he issued an apology.

But on Monday the Democrat incited disruptive behavior from protestors. Police arrested seven. Yet Zephyr continues to double down on his innocence. This is what he said before yesterday’s vote.
