The U.S. Senate unanimously voted on Wednesday to mandate the Biden administration declassify documents related to the origins of the pandemic.

The “COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023,” introduced by Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Mike Braun (R-Ind.), orders the Director of National Intelligence to “declassify and make available to the public as much information as possible about the origin of COVID–19.”

The measure follows the Department of Energy’s recent “low confidence” assessment that COVID-19 most likely originated from a lab leak in Wuha, China

“For nearly three years, anyone asking whether COVID-19 originated as a lab leak outbreak was silenced and branded as a conspiracy theorist. Now, these prudent skeptics stand vindicated,” Hawley said in a press release. “The Biden administration must immediately declassify all intelligence reports pertaining to the origins of COVID-19 and the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The American people deserve to know the truth.”

Wednesday’s bill is an updated version of Sens. Hawley and Braun’s “COVID-19 Origin Act of 2021,” which passed the Senate unanimously in May 2021.

“This bill passed the Senate unanimously in 2021, and since then the Biden administration has continued to keep information about COVID’s origins secret,” Brawn said. “The American people deserve transparency, free from government censors or media spin. It’s time to declassify everything we know about COVID’s origins and the Wuhan Institute of Virology, now.”

This week FBI Director Christopher Wray reaffirmed the bureau’s belief that the pandemic likely came from a Chinese lab.

“The FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan,” Wray told Fox News host, Bret Baier.
