After former President Donald Trump announced that he expects to be arrested on Tuesday, security forces around the Capitol were increased and the NYPD began preparing for potential unrest in Manhattan, where Trump would be arraigned.

Though unrest at the Capitol may cause some to think back to January 6, Capitol Police are taking precautions that “are in line with similar precautions taken for other major protests around the Capitol,” and nothing more. Police intelligence says that protests are more likely to occur in Manhattan and around Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

“The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and different branches of law enforcement discussed the logistics of closing down streets and putting lights up with generators, extra barriers, and extra police,” according to a Fox News law enforcement source.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams downplayed the situation.

“We are monitoring comments on social media, and the NYPD is doing their normal role of making sure there is no inappropriate actions in the city. We are confident we’re going to be able to do that,” Adams said.

Trump called on his supporters to protest if he were to be arrested from his Truth Social account on Saturday. He said that he had learned from a leaked source that he would likely be indicted Tuesday.

“[T]he far & away leading Republican candidate & former president of the United States of America, will be arrested on Tuesday of next week … Protest, take our nation back!” FISM reported Trump posted.

It was this call from Trump that has some in the intelligence community worried.

“Potential criminal justice actions taken toward a former US president — or actions perceived to be taken toward the former president — remain a ‘line in the sand’ for Domestic Violent Extremists (DVE) communities and thus have the potential to manifest in violence toward government targets or political officials,” DC Fusion Center, a threat intelligence group within Homeland Security, stated in a release.

QUIET SO FAR

Based on this report and the fact that as of this writing, there are no big protests to be reported, things will likely remain calm until/if President Trump is arrested and arraigned in a Manhattan Court.

A law enforcement source, speaking to Fox News, said that they do not “expect the former president to be arraigned until next week as the Manhattan grand jury — which has been meeting secretly to hear evidence for weeks — has another witness on Wednesday.”

If Trump is not arrested until the beginning of next week, it gives law enforcement officials time to prepare for the unrest that could take place in New York, Florida, and potentially Washington D.C. It also gives the president and other GOP leaders a chance to speak out against potential violence and to ask supporters to remain calm.

The grand jury has been probing the $130,000 payment that was made to porn actress Stormy Daniels in 2016 by Trump lawyer Michael Cohen who made the payment through a shell company before being reimbursed by Trump. Trump’s company then logged the expense as a “legal expense.”

Trump has maintained his innocence and remains adamant that this investigation is nothing more than a politically motivated stunt aimed at keeping him out of the 2024 presidential race.

In 2019, federal prosecutors opted out of charging Trump on similar charges regarding Daniels, and in 2021 the Federal Election Commission tossed the investigation as well.

An indictment of Trump would be the first criminal case against a former U.S. president in American history.
