Fallout from the Nashville school shooting continues.
Hundreds of young activists stormed the Tennessee State Capitol Building to demand new gun control laws.
Spurred on by the recent school shooting in Nashville, the crowd grew so large yesterday morning that state lawmakers had to enter the building through a narrow pathway.
Tennessee State Police also barred protestors from a hall so representatives could safely reach the bathrooms. But the scene digressed into chaos when protestors tried to push through anyways.
Kelsey Gibbs, a journalist on scene, sparked controversy when she deleted a tweet sharing footage of this moment. Gibbs said she the footage gave the impression of a riot. She wanted to clarify: “This was a peaceful protest.”
Twitter users responded that it seemed hypocritical to call the protest peaceful while right-wing protestors were called insurrectionists for similar behavior on January 6.
The chaos continued in the House chamber, where state Representative Justin Jones and two other Democrats prompted protestors to chant.
This temporarily prevented lawmakers from accomplishing their agenda.
