The DEA warns the U.S. may soon be in a zombie catastrophe, or at least facing the tragic consequences of a so called zombie drug cocktail.

Xylazine is approved as an animal tranquilizer, but it is also known on the streets as ‘Tranq.’

The drug causes serious and life-threatening side effects in humans. Specifically, it’s known for causing ‘zombie-like’ rotting flesh that can lead to amputations.

Now, authorities say the drug is being mixed with the deadly opioid fentanyl. To make matters worse Narcan is unable to reverse its impact. This means the mixture has an increased chance of causing fatal drug poisoning.

One DEA official said the combination is making the fentanyl crisis even deadlier. The mixture has been found in 48 states already.

Agents seized 10 thousand pounds of fentanyl powder last year. The DEA reports that 23% of this also contained xylazine.
