Pastor Derek Reimer of Calgary Canada was arrested for a second time in less than a month for protesting a drag queen event targeting kids.
Reimer was arrested on Wednesday for violating a release order barring him from being within 200 meters of an LGBTQ event, per Fox News, after protesting a drag queen story time event at Signal Hill Library. A court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
Reimer was previously arrested after a similar protest at the Seton Calgary public library on Feb. 25. Reimer preached the Gospel and called out homosexuality and transgenderism as a sin before he was forcibly removed. A video from the event shows two men throwing Reimer to the ground as he said, “Jesus Christ is Lord … turn to Jesus and repent!” He was charged with mischief and causing a disturbance and was later arrested on March 2.
This week, the Calgary city council updated its bylaws to crack down on protests of drag events, CBC reports.
Under the new “Safe and Inclusive Access Bylaw” protests are barred within 100 meters of an entrance to a library or recreational building.
“There’s no banning of protests. It is simply removing [them] from the entrance so that people can have a safe experience inside those buildings,” Mayor Jyoti Gondek said.
Reimer was also given a 30-day trespass notice this week for holding a silent prayer protest of the new law inside the Municipal Building without a permit.
Calgary pastor Artur Pawlowski, who was arrested multiple times for holding church services during COVID-19 lockdowns, told Fox News that Canada has an “open hatred toward Christianity.”
“Everyone who is visible, everyone in Canada who is boldly proclaiming Christianity, has become an open target,” Pawlowski said. “Calgary was immune for a little bit from the drag queen perversion — because that’s what it is: it’s a sick, twisted perversion, and you can quote me on that.”
