Now that Twitter CEO Elon Musk has revealed former Twitter officials censored the Hunter Biden laptop story by the New York Post right before the 2020 presidential election, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is going after the 51 intel agents who claimed that story was Russian disinformation.

During a recent interview on FOX News, Congressman McCarthy said it’s “egregious what we’re finding” in the wake of the release of the “Twitter Files” investigation. Journalists Matt Taibbi and Bari Weiss have now shared four iterations of the “Twitter Files” that detail the clandestine operation that many of the employees at the social media giant upheld as they made off-the-cuff decisions as to who and what to censor on the platform

“Those 51 intel agents that signed a letter that said the Hunter Biden information was all wrong — was Russia collusion — many of them have a security clearance. We’re going to bring them before a committee. I’m going to have them have a hearing — bring them and subpoena them before a committee,” he said.

Days after the laptop story was published, 51 former intelligence officials including former CIA Director John Brennan and ex-National Security Council Director James Clapper signed a statement claiming Russia was likely behind it. The letter stated, in part:

Perhaps most important, each of us believes deeply that American citizens should determine the outcome of elections, not foreign governments. All of us agree with the founding fathers’ concern about the damage that foreign interference in our politics can do to our democracy. It is for all these reasons that we write to say that the arrival on the U.S. political scene of emails purportedly belonging to Vice President Biden’s son Hunter, much of it related to his time serving on the Board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.

“Why did they sign it?” Congressman McCarthy asked. “Why did they lie to the American public? A Clapper, a Brennan? Why did you use the reputation that America was able to give to you more information, but use it for a political purpose and lie to the American public?”

In the interview, Congressman McCarthy also said he plans to investigate whether officials at Facebook and Google worked to suppress information, saying “they became an arm of the Democratic Party.” But right now, his focus is on Twitter.

In a recent installment of the “Twitter Files,” journalist Bari Weiss tweeted that new information “reveals that teams of Twitter employees build blacklists, prevent disfavored tweets from trending, and actively limit the visibility of entire accounts or even trending topics — all in secret, without informing users.”

Many other conservative lawmakers have voiced their support of former Twitter officials being held accountable for the information being released as part of the Twitter investigation.

Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene recently tweeted: “With the information released from the Twitter Files, the DOJ should already be preparing to prosecute people who formerly worked at Twitter for election interference, 1st Amendment violations of speech & press, and child pornography, but the DOJ is nothing but a..”

Texas Congressman Ted Cruz, who said the “Twitter Files” have “exposed corruption in the highest levels of government, FBI and Big Tech,” recently tweeted: “Everyone at Twitter who lied to the Federal Election Commission needs to retain lawyers. Those folks are in real civil and real criminal jeopardy right now.”

Leader McCarthy is expected to become Speaker of the House when the GOP takes control of the House of Representatives at the beginning of next year, though he still faces opposition within the Republican Party. The House will meet on January 3 to choose its next speaker and so far, only five Republicans have publically said they will not support McCarthy.
