Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles remained the NFL’s only undefeated team thanks to a missed field goal after a poor decision by Kyler Murray.
Hurts ran for two touchdowns and the Eagles held on for a 20-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday when Matt Ammendola’s 43-yard field-goal attempt sailed wide right.
Before Ammendola’s kick, Murray slid just short of a first down on a second-down run. He then spiked the ball on third down because the Cardinals had no time-outs remaining with 23 seconds left in the game. The spike forced Ammendola’s attempt. If Murray would’ve run for one more yard before sliding, he would’ve gained the first down and the spike would have stopped the clock and given Arizona time to run at least one more play from the Eagles’ 25-yard line.
“At that moment, I was trying to get down as quick as possible to save as much time as possible,” Murray said. “Hindsight, I would have loved to get more yards or 1 yard — whatever it was.”
Hurts managed the clock perfectly when he stayed in bounds on a second-down run during the previous drive which concluded with Cameron Dicker making a 23-yard field goal to provide the winning margin. Dicker played his first game for the Eagles in place of the injured Jake Elliott.
“All the credit to him, he made the kick in a huge moment,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said about Dicker. “The guys really embraced him and made him feel welcome.”
With 19 rushing touchdowns in his first 24 career starts, Hurts set an NFL record. He is proving to be one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL.
First 24 career starts:
Jalen Hurts: 1,322 yards, 19 TD
Cam Newton: 1,053 yards, 18 TD
Lamar Jackson: 1,861 yards, 11 TD

Buccaneers 21, Falcons 15
Tom Brady had 351 yards passing and a touchdown in Tampa Bay’s 21-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Brady avoided his first three-game losing streak since 2002.
A questionable roughing the passer penalty on third down against Atlanta’s Grady Jarrett allowed the Buccaneers to extend the final drive and run out the clock.
