A Planned Parenthood doctor said at a Congressional hearing on Thursday that men can become pregnant and have children.

Testifying before the House Oversight and Reform Committee, Dr. Bhavik Kumar — medical director for primary and trans care at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast — was asked by Representative Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) whether or not “biological men can become pregnant and give birth.”

“So men can have pregnancies, especially trans men,” Kumar replied.

Clyde asked for clarification: “So are you saying that a biological female who identifies as a man and therefore becomes pregnant is, quote, ‘a man?’ Is that what you’re saying?”

Kumar told the representative his line of questioning is “really missing the point,” before saying, “Somebody with a uterus may have the capability of becoming pregnant, whether they’re a woman or a man. That doesn’t make a difference.”

“OK, we’re done,” Clyde interjected, as Kumar continued by saying, “Not every person with a uterus has the ability to become pregnant. This is medicine.”

Clyde attempted to correct Kumar explaining, “Females are XX chromosome and males are XY chromosome. I can’t believe it’s necessary to say this, but men cannot get pregnant and cannot give birth regardless of how they identify themselves.”

Kumar was brought in as a Democrat witness for the hearing discussing Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) proposed federal 15-week aborting ban.

In his exchange with Clyde, Kumar said he’s likely performed “thousands” of abortions.

Kumar is not the first person to assert in a congressional hearing that men can become pregnant. In July a witness accused Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) of being “transphobic”  for saying he does not believe “men can get pregnant.”

A September poll found that almost one out of four Democrats believe “some men can get pregnant.”
