The American Family Association’s online mothers action group has launched an effort to get Disney and its subsidiary FXX to remove a satanic show from its programming.
When a journalist uses a word like satanic, it’s easy to be accused of editorializing. Typically such a term would fall squarely in the realm of the types of value judgments journalists should avoid. In this case, when one refers to the show, titled “Little Demon,” as satanic, the term is strictly objective.
Disney and the show’s creators revel in the fact that “Little Demon” is based around the actual spawn of Satan. This is an undisputed reality that, for reasons that do not immediately make sense, even Snopes chose to verify for its readers.
Cameron Smith of the Alabama-centric news site Al.com describes “Little Demon” as Disney “mainstreaming the Antichrist.” And this statement, which would normally be an example of hyperbole, is also 100% factual.
Aubrey Plaza, perhaps best known to a casual audience for having played April on the sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” is among the stars of the show and has celebrated the fact that her character is “normalizing paganism.”
The show has proven too much for a large number of practicing Christians to ignore, and the group One Million Moms has launched a petition to have the show canceled.
“Disney is introducing viewers, including children who might stumble across this series, to a world of demons, witches, and sorcery,” a statement on the One Million Moms website reads. “Along with the demonic content of this series, the minds of younger viewers will also be inundated with secular worldviews that reflect the current culture.”
“Little Demon” is an animated comedy aimed at a mature audience and is about the daughter of a woman who was impregnated by Satan. The show, which is being marketed across Disney platforms, has found its way to the eyes of young viewers at least through advertisements.
Such was the case for Louisiana Republican Congressman Mike Johnson, who wrote in a lengthy Facebook post that both he and his child had been subjected to the show via a commercial that aired during the LSU-Florida State football game.
“The shocking ending to the LSU opener was not the most disturbing part of the game last night,” Johnson wrote. “For me, that came during a commercial break in the second quarter when the television audience was presented with the trailer for a new FX cartoon ‘sitcom’ entitled, ‘LITTLE DEMON.’”
Johnson concluded,
I could write volumes this morning, and unpack pages of Bible verses here, but instead I’m just going to state the obvious: Please be careful. Our job as parents is to guard the hearts and minds of our kids. This culture has become alarmingly dark and desensitized and this is not a game. Disney and FX have decided to embrace and market what is clearly evil. STAY FAR FROM IT. ‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.’ (1 Peter 5:8)
As of this writing, the petition has received nearly 33,000 signatures, but it is unlikely that any number of signatures will cause Disney to reconsider. The only antidote for Christians’ “Little Demon” problem will be if sufficiently few people watch, which should be an easy request for Christians to fulfill given the abject depravity of the program, and subscribers to the Disney+ streaming platform cancel their subscriptions.
