New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared an emergency late on Friday over the continued spread of monkeypox.

“I am declaring a State Disaster Emergency to strengthen our ongoing efforts to confront the monkeypox outbreak,” Hochul tweeted.

She added that more than one in four monkeypox cases in the U.S. are in New York. As of July 29, New York state had a total of 1,383 confirmed orthopoxvirus/monkeypox cases, according to the New York Department of Health’s website.

Dr. Rosamund Lewis, the World Health Organization’s monkeypox expert, reported that at least 95% of those diagnosed with monkeypox in this international outbreak are men who have sex with other men. The New England Journal of Medicine reported the same findings.

Billy Binion, an associate editor at Reason, pointed out the liberal media’s hypocrisy in reporting on monkeypox, as compared to COVID-19.

Earlier on Friday, Brazil and Spain reported the first monkeypox-related deaths outside Africa.

The World Health Organization last week declared a global health emergency, its highest level of alert, over the monkeypox outbreak.
