A new poll found that more than 3-in-4 Americans believe political elites do not face the same justice system as “everyday Americans,” further proving the general public has a growing distrust of government institutions.

The Trafalgar Group polled over 1,000 respondents in late July and asked only one question, “What is your opinion of the current state of the American justice system?”

With three options to choose from, nearly 80 percent of respondents answered that there were two tiers to the American justice system: one that applied to the political elite and one that applied to everyday Americans. Only 11.6 percent believed laws were applied equally, regardless of status, and 9.1 percent said they weren’t sure.

There was some disparity in the percentages across party lines — 87.8 percent of Republicans and 66.7 percent of Democrats — but a clear majority of all groups said there was inequality in the justice system.

While both parties agree that there are political elites who have escaped justice, who those elites are and their crimes are vastly debated. Before former President Donald Trump took office, speculation circulated regarding Hillary Clinton and whether or not she would be prosecuted for the email leak scandal. She has never been charged with a crime.

There has also been wide criticism of how the DOJ has seemingly turned a blind eye to Hunter Biden’s well-publicized, alleged illegal activity.

After Trump left the White House, demands came from those on the political left insisting that he be charged for the events that unfolded on January 6th, 2021. The Los Angeles Times Editorial Board called for him to be charged with conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy to defraud the United States, at minimum.

The poll was published just one week before news broke regarding the unprecedented FBI raid of Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Largo. In response, many conservatives took to social media to share their thoughts on the raid. Some included the sentiment of disparity in our justice system, suggesting that even amongst the political elite the justice system is skewed to favor Democrats.

Nick Adams, a best-selling author who was previously endorsed by President Trump, took to Twitter yesterday to point out the disparity.

Conservative podcaster Liz Wheeler also tweeted a list of people who haven’t been raided by the FBI, in an effort to point out what she views as hypocrisy by the FBI.

While the justice system, in particular, is under a microscope right now, broad distrust from the American people has been mounting against government institutions for months.

Last month the Trafalgar Group published a poll in the wake of the Uvalde school shooting asking respondents if they trusted their government agencies to protect them in a mass shooting situation. The poll showed not only that most Americans had no faith in the government to protect them, but that they trusted armed civilians more than the police.
