Rumors are swirling that Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin may run for President in 2024 as reports emerge of the governor’s massive war chest, expanding a growing list of possible contenders for the Republican ticket.

According to a report by the Washington Examiner, Governor Youngkin’s PAC, Spirit of Virginia, raised $2.64 million dollars from Jan. 1 to June 30.

The governor’s haul more than doubled what his three immediate predecessors raised during their first six months in office and reveals a chief executive not content to return to private life after concluding the single, four-year term afforded to him under Virginia’s constitution,” the Examiner reports.

The report goes on to suggest that the funds raised by Spirit of Virginia, along with Youngkin’s other PAC, America’s Spirit, will be used to build “a political operation dedicated to expanding the governor’s footprint and influence” beyond Virginia. “That effort is taking shape in the form of accelerated travel to states, red and blue, to boost Republican candidates requesting his assistance.”

Last November Youngkin defeated his Democratic opponent Former Governor Terry McAuliffe 50.6% to 48.7%, flipping a traditionally blue state red. Youngkin made national headlines by focusing on the issue of parental rights in education, at a time when tensions were growing between school boards and concerned parents over issues like Critical Race Theory and LBGTQ curriculum, along with mounting frustration over COVID-19 classroom policies.

Jim Dornan, a Republican strategist, told the Examiner, “As soon as it became clear that Youngkin would win a governor’s race by threading the needle between Trump voters and mainstream suburban voters, he became a viable candidate for president.”

Other possible Republican candidates include Former President Donald Trump, Former Vice President Mike Pence, Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Former UN ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
