Despite a push from Democrats to limit gun purchases, it appears that Americans have been coming out in droves to acquire a personal firearm.
FBI background check data reviewed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) found that the number of background checks in June of this year sits at 1,382,287, according to reporting by The Washington Examiner. This represents an increase of 8.1% over June 2021.
These numbers mean that June 2022 is the second-highest month of background checks on record. The record-holder is June 2020 when the nation was dealing with BLM riots, attacks on police, COVID-19 lockdowns, and tensions from the 2020 Presidential election.
Not only is it one of the highest gun sale months on record, but it also continues a near-three-year trend. With these June 2022 numbers in, the NSSF calculates that gun sales have been above 1 million nationwide for 35 straight months.
Mark Oliva of the NSSF said that these numbers “are a strong reminder of the values and freedoms for which our nation stands, including the right of individuals to keep and bear arms for Americans of all walks of life.”
“While President Biden and gun control advocates demanded strict gun control legislation, Americans voted with their wallets that the Second Amendment is a right they are choosing to exercise by the millions every month,” he added.
Justin Anderson, the marketing director of Hyatt Guns in Charlotte, North Carolina, told the Examiner that he is witnessing what he calls “a definite uptick in business in what historically is our slowest time of the year,” particularly in “everyday-carry handguns and associated gear.”
Anderson also noted that specifically women and African Americans are coming in as new gun buyers.
People are becoming more and more informed at just how inept and unwilling government agencies are to protect them, and in some extreme cases, may threaten them. Along with that, our training classes are filling up quickly at our new shooting complex just east of Charlotte. It remains an exciting time to be in the gun business!
