Police in Madison, Wisconsin are investigating a case of arson and vandalism against a pro-life pregnancy center that took place early Sunday. Wisconsin Family Action was the subject of an attack that included Molotov cocktails used to burn the building and graffiti meant to intimidate those in the pro-life movement.
Flames were seen coming from the building shortly after 6 a.m., according to Madison.com. In addition to the flames, the perpetrators also spray painted, “If abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either” on the structure along with an anarchy symbol that has often been associated with anti-police and Antifa protesters. No injuries have been reported and federal investigators have been briefed on the incident.
The incident appears to have been done in response to the leaked Supreme Court opinion, which if it comes to fruition, would overturn Roe v. Wade and hand the legislation of abortion back to the states. Numerous incidents including protests at Supreme Court justice’s homes, pro-choice advocates disrupting church services, and vandalism of church properties have been used as an intimidation tactic since the leak last Monday.
The pro-life group, Wisconsin Family Action President Julaine Appling stated, ”We’ve done nothing to warrant this. Nothing to warrant a direct threat because of our position on life.”
The pro-life leader went on to say that she doesn’t feel safe at her offices and is concerned for her pro-life friends as anger and unrest about abortion rights are on the rise.
“That’s not the America I know. That’s not how we respond,” she said. “If we’re truly tolerant then we should be able to share our opinions without threats to people’s safety and security.
“I’ll tell you one thing. I don’t want to be bullied into a move,” Appling continued. “But I have the security of my team. That’s my responsibility. I have to be concerned about that so we’re going to have to take a very very close look at next steps.”
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said in a statement, “Our department has and continues to support people being able to speak freely and openly about their beliefs. But we feel that any acts of violence, including the destruction of property, do not aid in any cause.”
Governor Tony Evers echoed their words, saying, “We reject violence against any person for disagreeing with another’s view.”
We condemn violence and hatred in all forms, including the actions at Wisconsin Family Action in Madison last night. We reject violence against any person for disagreeing with another’s view.
Violence is not the way forward. Hurting others is never the answer.

Sen. Ron Johnson also condemned the attack on Twitter saying, “This attack is abhorrent and should be condemned by all.”

Despite the widespread condemnation of the attack, some from the far-left celebrated it on social media. Journalist Andy Ngo shared a post from Rewire News reporter Caroline Reilly who encouraged more of these types of terroristic attacks against pro-life organizations, stating, “may these people never know a moment of peace or safety until they rot in the ground.”
