Amid the left’s collective outrage over a possible reversal of Roe v. Wade, VICE recently touted the use of a veterinary drug used to treat ulcers in horses as a convenient do-it-yourself abortion alternative in response to the “horrifying prospect” that Roe will be overturned. The media outlet shared instructions on making the abortion-inducing drug originally published by an outfit called the “Anarchist Collective.”

Ironically, laud for the veterinary-prescribed medication comes after liberal media outlets labeled ivermectin, a proven COVID-19 therapeutic, a “horse dewormer” and excoriated those who promoted its efficacy as “conspiracy theorists.”

VICE recently joined other liberal media outlets in accusing Spotify podcaster Joe Rogan of spreading “misinformation” about ivermectin.

“You may be reminded of ivermectin, which is used to control parasites in horses. It became a favored—but ineffective—COVID treatment among conspiracy theorists. The main difference here is that misoprostol does something,” tweeted MotherBoard, VICE’s technology company.

The organization also relays that the medication is “relatively easy to acquire from veterinary sources.”

“Horse drugs are now good guys,” tweeted Free Beacon writer Drew Holden along with an image of side-by-side tweets from MotherBoard: one accusing Rogan of peddling “misinformation about the horse de-worming pill he took” and the other recommending medication “used to treat ulcers in horses” as an abortion pill.

In the past, misoprostol was approved in humans only when it was used “for the prevention and treatment of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers in patients taking NSAIDs and at high risk for ulceration.” The Food and Drug Administration acknowledged that use of the drug, especially during labor, can cause “a torn uterus,” “severe bleeding,” “hysterectomy,” and the “death of the mother or baby.”

A meta analysis of ivermectin, on the other hand, found the medication to be both safe and effective in the treatment of COVID-19 symptoms.

Throughout the pandemic, anyone, including physicians, who suggested the use of ivermectin as a therapeutic was silenced by the media, who justified the censorship as a means of protecting Americans from misinformation, which may be the most-repeated word in recent progressive lexicon. Medical professionals who prescribed ivermectin for their patients were threatened with revocation of their medical licenses. A physician in Ontario was suspended indefinitely for prescribing the therapeutic to a patient.

Other mainstream media outlets have jumped on the misoprostol bandwagon as a convenient means of ending pregnancy, glossing over the potential danger – even death – that could result from ingesting the powerful drug without first consulting a physician. The New Statesman, a British magazine, goes so far as to suggest that women stock up on the tablets even if they aren’t pregnant – just in case.
