The Tehran Times, which describes itself as “the Islamic Republic of Iran’s first English daily newspaper,” published an article last week regarding Israel with the ominous title, “Just one wrong move!”
While the title of the article is threatening, it is not the main reason it’s making international headlines. The photos included in the article contain images of Israel marked with targets, implying potential bombing locations. The caption underneath one image says, “An intensification of the Israeli military threats against Iran seems to suggest that the Zionist regime has forgotten that Iran is more than capable of hitting them from anywhere.”
The article apparently comes in response to an article from The Yedioth Ahronot, an Israeli newspaper, which referred to the recent strike on Syria as a “direct message” to Iran.
As tensions in the Middle East have ratcheted up, Israel has steadily increased its military fortitude in preparation for a potential attack from Iran, as well as other Islamic forces that threaten the country. Just this month Israel announced that their border wall project along the Gaza Strip had been completed. The wall even includes a subterranean element to prevent terrorists from digging tunnels into the country, a tactic which foes often successfully used before.
The issues with Iran, however, cannot be resolved with border walls since the threat involves nuclear missiles, which would only take an hour to reach Israel.
Israeli Minister of Defense, Benny Gantz, recently went to Washington to discuss Iran’s nuclear capabilities with White House officials. Israel has vehemently opposed a return to a return to an Iranian nuclear deal, which has been recently debated in the Vienna meetings between Iran, Russia, The United Kingdom, China, France, and Germany.
Israeli officials have also recently confirmed that a large-scale exercise will be carried out over the Mediterranean in the Spring to simulate an airstrike on Iran during these talks in a show of power. This will be one of the largest drills the Israeli Air Force has ever carried out and includes dozens of military aircrafts. The demonstration will occur at a distance representing the 620 miles needed to reach Iran’s nuclear facilities. These demonstrations are also referenced in the The Tehran Times article, which says, “The Israeli disruptive moves are not a mystery to the negotiators.”
On Tuesday, Iranian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, said, “Despite our confidence in the deterrence situation of the country, our forces have never underestimated the threat of the enemy and are prepared for the smallest of threats in the strategic field,”
The article closes by giving an overt warning and threat to Israel:
The Tehran Times doesn’t need to remind the illegitimate regime of Israel of Iran’s defense capabilities. Yet, they need to remember something. Sometimes the leaders of the Zionist regime even threaten us; they are threatening to strike militarily, but I think they know it, and if they do not know it, they must know that if they make a mistake, the Islamic Republic will destroy Tel Aviv and Haifa.”
