The NFL’s third week of action concluded with a Monday night clash between two fierce division rivals. The Dallas Cowboys pummeled their hated rival Philadelphia Eagles 41-21 before a crowd of over 93,000 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. After the win, Dallas improved to 2-1 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 1-2 after a hot start in week 1.
Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott played in front of a home crowd for the first time in nearly a year after he suffered a brutal season-ending ankle injury last year. Prescott did not disappoint as he put forth a stellar performance, completing 21 of 26 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns. He said afterward what it meant for him to return in front of a full house in prime time:
Thankful for just the opportunity to be back out here, doing what I love and doing it here at AT&T in front of the fans, with my teammates, in an atmosphere like this, first home game. It was special. It was definitely special.
Meanwhile, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had a so-so performance in the loss. He threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw two interceptions. Monday night’s loss gives the impression that perhaps Philly is in a rebuilding year under their sophomore quarterback and rookie head coach, Nick Sirianni. Sirianni’s play calling was criticized by sports writers, as he only used explosive half back Miles Sanders minimally.
After three weeks only five undefeated teams remain – the Las Vegas Raiders, Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Rams, and Arizona Cardinals. Two of the undefeated teams, the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams, are slated for a Week 4 matchup on Sunday afternoon.
