It appears athletes are once again masquerading as politicians, and once again these athletes are seeking a liberal agenda. News broke earlier this week that 500 past and present American female athletes are asking the Supreme Court to ignore a high-profile Mississippi abortion case that could lead to the reversal of Roe vs. Wade. Among these athletes are National Women’s Soccer Team star and staunch liberal Megan Rapinoe, as well as several WNBA stars and Olympic athletes.
The athletes issued the statement Monday, claiming that this case could endanger the careers of females who would no longer be able to partake in sports if they are not legally protected to terminate their pregnancy. One of the athletes, Olympic swimmer Crissy Perham, aborted her unborn child only months before the 1992 Olympics, where she won a two gold medals in the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympic Games. She said,
My life would be drastically different if I had been pregnant and forced to sit that (national championship) race out, because that race changed the course of my life. I made the choice that was right for me and my future, and I stand by my decision. That choice ultimately led me to being an Olympian, a college graduate, and a proud mother today.
Megan Rapinoe added her opinion,
Physically, we push ourselves to the absolute limit, so to have forces within this country trying to deny us control over our own bodies is infuriating and un-American and will be met with fierce resistance.
This is a disheartening development. Sadly, these women are repeating an argument spoken incessantly by those in favor of legalized infanticide, that “personal autonomy” elevates the importance of their careers over the lives of unborn children. This is a prime example of selfishness. In this case, the corporate selfishness is life-threatening.
Christians need to continually pray against this darkness, and that these precious babies would be spared.
