A former Super Bowl Champion is leaving the game of football to enter the high calling of pastoral ministry.
Stefen Wisniewski, a longtime offensive lineman who won two inspirational Super Bowls with the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, is walking away from the NFL after 10 seasons. The 32-year-old Wisniewski made the announcement via Twitter on Thursday. In the video he said his next step will be entering pastoral ministry.

Wisniewski was part of a strong Christian core on a Philadelphia Eagles team that overcame near-insurmountable odds to capture the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl Trophy in the 2017 season. The team lost its starting quarterback, fellow believer Carson Wentz, and several other key offensive starters to injury throughout the season. Some were on the offensive line, forcing Wisniewski into a starting role for the majority of the season. He was integral in protecting backup quarterback Nick Foles during the Eagles’ improbable playoff run and inspiring victory over the mighty New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.
In 2019, Wisniewski left Philadelphia and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. In a similar feel-good story, he served as a utility lineman protecting MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Wisniewski started every game in another postseason run. The Chiefs came back from a huge deficit in the divisional round against Houston Texans and made another comeback in the AFC Championship against the Tennessee Titans. In the Super Bowl, the Chiefs were down by 10 in the middle of the 4th quarter but stormed back once again, defeating the San Francisco 49ers to claim the city’s first Super Bowl in 50 years.
He will be missed in an NFL that is severely lacking in Christ-like men, but Wisniewski is entering a high and weighty calling. Hopefully, he will be remembered not only for his talent on the football field, but more importantly for his faithfulness in shepherding the people of God.
