Major League Baseball announced a shocking business maneuver last week that was largely overshadowed by the league’s relocation of the All-Star Game from Atlanta following Georgia’s new voter integrity laws. Though not as a publicized as the All-Star Game switch, this development is just as concerning.
The league is renewing their contract with the Chinese state-run television service known as Tencent. This comes after the MLB announced last year that it is investing in a baseball development center in China. Tencent, a service that censored NBA games after Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey praised the pro-democracy contingent in China in 2019, will own the legal rights to stream Major League Baseball games in various major markets throughout the Far East until the 2023 season.
The MLB’s decision to move the All-Star Game due to “ethical concerns” while fraternizing with the most powerful communist regime in the world is both contradictory and baffling. Many Americans were understandably disgusted with Major League Baseball’s pandering to the whims of the left, both on a national and international scale. Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida blasted Major League Baseball after the announcement via Twitter.
Dear GOP:@MLB caves to pressure & moves draft & #AllStarGame out of Georgia on the same week they announce a deal with a company backed by the genocidal Communist Party of #China
Why are we still listening to these woke corporate hypocrites on taxes, regulations & anti-trust? https://t.co/GWToVhAZvW
