The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the champions of the National Football League. Quarterback Tom Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski, and a ferocious Tampa Bay defense led the way as the Bucs defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV. The win was before a delighted home crowd at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay on Sunday night. Brady, playing in his record tenth Super Bowl, was magnificent. He threw three touchdown passes, two of them to Gronkowski, his old teammate from New England, who came out of retirement to rejoin Brady prior to the 2020 season.
For the Chiefs, who were seeking to defend their title from the 2019 season, it was a disappointing end to a dominant year. For the first time all season, their high powered offense failed to reach the end zone. Superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes could not escape from a fierce Tampa Bay pass rush that forced two interceptions and had Mahomes running for his life all night. Kansas City’s top receiving targets, tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Tyreek Hill, were mostly ineffective throughout the game.
For the Buccaneers, this was their second Super Bowl title in franchise history, and their first in almost two decades. Tom Brady added more hardware to his list of accolades by winning his 5th Super Bowl MVP award, an NFL-record. For Brady, possibly the most impressive accomplishment was that with seven career Super Bowl titles, he has personally won more Super Bowls than any other franchise in NFL history.
