On Tuesday night, police declared a riot in Portland “near the Multnomah Building” after participants “vandalized, repeatedly smashed first floor windows with rocks and threw burning material into an office.” The Multnomah Building serves as the county’s government building.
On the 83rd night of demonstrations and riots, agitators lit dumpster fires and broke windows, eventually setting fires inside government offices. Once a riot was declared, officers in riot gear appeared on the premises to push back the group. Later in the night, a group of demonstrators attempted to rouse residents to join them by chanting “black lives matter” and “no justice, no peace,” along with other phrases.
Portland has been experiencing waves of violence over the past several months. On Sunday night, a group of Black Lives Matter activists surrounded a driver, Adam Haner, who then attempted to drive through the crowd to escape. Moments later he crashed into a wall and was ripped from the car, assaulted, and pushed to the ground. One man then kicked Haner in the head knocking him unconscious. Haner has been released from the hospital and is recovering. Police are in an ongoing manhunt for Marquise Love, who is suspected of perpetrating the assault.
