Thousands flooded the streets across multiple cities in Cuba on Sunday to demand their freedom from the oppressive control of its communist government and also called for food and COVID-19 vaccines.
Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas announced that they sold an untouched copy of Super Mario 64, the best-selling game on the Nintendo 64 system, for a record-setting $1.56 million. The auction house held bids starting on July 9 and finished selling the game on July 11.

During the pandemic Asian-Americans experienced a precipitous rise in discrimination and hate crimes due to the origin of COVID-19 being in Wuhan, China. This amounted to a cultural phenomenon similar to the reaction to and treatment of Arab-Americans after 9/11. In response, Illinois has passed a bill that requires its schools to teach Asian-American history.

Charlottesville has officially removed its Robert E. Lee statue after being the subject of a protracted law suit. The statue along with other Confederate statues have been the subject of extensive and heated debate across the US.
