Four pharmaceutical companies – AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health, and McKesson— along with Johnson & Johnson are facing a $26 billion settlement with U.S. states and attorney generals over their responsibility in the opioid crisis. While not officially unveiled, the settlement is expected to have J&J pay $5 billion over the next nine years while the other three pay $21 billion over 18 years.

California law makers passed a new budget for the state on Thursday. In that budget they include a record setting $4.8 billion to be spent combatting homelessness across the state. California represents the fifth largest economy in the world with a whopping $3.2 trillion gross state product (GSP) in 2019. While this amount is historic, it is proportional to the economy that California commands.

As tensions between China and the US continue to rise, the US Air Force is sending at least 25 F-22 Raptor fighter jets to the Pacific region. This move is being taken as a part of Operation Pacific Iron 2021 in order to shore up the US presence throughout the Pacific. It is also intended as a clear and direct message from the US to China that do not plan on ceding ground in the Pacific region whatsoever.
