The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released an updated report on Thursday estimating that the US Deficit will hit three trillion dollars in 2021. The CBO indicated that the most significant portion of that deficit consists of the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief and stimulus plan that the government passed at the beginning of the year. The good news is that the COVID-19 relief and stimulus measures are only temporary and that as they expire the US deficit will steadily decline.

As anti-police protests continue throughout Minneapolis, Minnesota and violent crime sees a sharp increase throughout the city, a Minneapolis Judge has ordered the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) to hire more officers in order to stay in line with the municipal charter. Following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis by former police officer Derek Chauvin in 2020 protests and riots have run rampant throughout Minneapolis over the past year. In addition, there have been widespread public calls for the reform, defunding, and abolishment of the police.

Following the 100 year anniversary celebration of the oppressive Chinese Communist Party in China, an article was published in Chinese state run media outlining a three stage plan to invade Taiwan. Tensions between China and the quasi-independent Taiwan have been building for years and China has recently become more aggressive. In fact, during the 100 year anniversary celebration, Chinese premier Xi Jinping pledged that the reunification with Taiwan was imminent.

Hurricane Elsa, the fifth named storm this season, is set to sweep through the Caribbean and into the South East US this coming holiday weekend. Elsa was originally categorized as a tropical-storm but as winds have rapidly picked up and the size of the storm has increased over the ocean before the Caribbean islands it has been upgraded to a category 1 hurricane. Around the eye of the storm winds currently blow at around 85 miles per hour and winds up to 75 miles per hour radiant outward to the far edges of the storm which spans close to 125 miles.
