President Biden received swift blowback following his announcement of vaccine mandates for companies with over 100 workers, saying it’s “not about freedom, or personal choice.” Republicans decried Biden’s heavy handed program, with legislatures, governors, and private entities declaring they’d work to stop overreach from the executive branch.

Thursday evening, the Republican National Committee announced that it will be suing the Biden administration over the mandate. “Many small businesses and workers do not have the money or legal resources to fight Biden’s unconstitutional actions and authoritarian decrees,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement but when his decree goes into effect, the RNC will sue the administration to protect Americans and their liberties.”

The same night South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem told Fox’s Sean Hannity she will also be taking legal action against Biden. “My legal team is already working, and we will defend and protect our people from this unlawful mandate,” Noem said.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott took to Twitter to announce that his state “is already working to halt this power grab.”

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts also told Fox News, “Nebraska will push back, fight back with any tool we can find against this huge, stunning overreach of federal power.” During his speech, Biden said he’d use his power as president to get governors who oppose his COVID policy “out of the way.”

On Twitter, conservative hardline Senator Ted Cruz ripped the mandate calling it, “an attack on Americans’ right to privacy.” Similarly, the more moderate Senator Tim Scott said the measure “is extreme and un-American.”

In the House of Representatives, GOP leader Kevin McCarthy said Biden “has made small business an enemy of his administration,” and that “to Joe Biden, force is more important than freedom.”

In the private sector, Jeremy Boreing, CEO of the conservative outlet The Daily Wire, announced his company will not be following Biden’s mandate. “The Daily Wire does have more than 100 employees but we won’t be enforcing Joe Biden’s unconstitutional and tyrannical vaccine mandate,” Boreing said in a video statement, adding “we’ll use every tool at our disposal including legal action to resist.”

Biden’s mandate contradicts a statement he made in December of last year, where he said the shot wouldn’t be mandatory saying he instead will “do everything in my power as President of the United States to encourage people to do the right thing, and when they do it demonstrate that it matters.” Likewise, in March White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said there will be “no federal mandate requiring everyone to obtain a single vaccination credential.”

According to The Trafalgar Group, Biden’s approval rating hit “a new low” after he announced the mandate. The polling organization currently see’s the President with 54.3% disapproval rating, among which 48.2% strongly disapprove.
