Iranian-backed proxies continue their assaults from beyond the borders of Israel.
On Tuesday, for the first time, Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks that specifically targeted Israel. Israel confirmed that its fighter jets and missile defense system twice intercepted incoming fire. The attacks were hours apart, but both targeted Israel’s Red Sea shipping port of Eilat.
The Houthis had been suspected of an attack from earlier this month, but this is the first confirmation from the group. The group claimed three attacks on Israel, but it is unknown whether this recent example counts as one or two attacks.
Still, this development further stokes fears that the conflict in Israel could be expanding well beyond its current borders.
