Over the weekend, the White House walked back another President Joe Biden statement.
The president was asked if Israel should delay its ground invasion to allow for the potential freeing of more hostages, to which he answered, “Yes.” But now the White House is saying that Biden didn’t hear the full question and thought he was asked if more hostages should be released.
This comes as the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Britain released a statement Sunday in support of Israel defending itself but urged them to protect civilian lives.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken believes 10 Americans are among the over 200 hostages currently being held in Gaza. Hamas said these hostages would be released when circumstances on the ground allow.
The secretary also said that Hamas cannot go on governing Gaza, but stressed that Israel has no intentions of taking over the territory.
