U.S. involvement is heating up in the Middle East.
Thursday, the U.S. struck two sites in eastern Syria linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, destroying weapon and ammo storage units.
The strike came in response to recent attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria. Iranian proxies have launched more than a dozen drone and missile attacks since Oct. 17, attacks that resulted in the death of an American citizen and injury of at least 20 more.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin says the purpose of the strikes was “to make clear that the United States will not tolerate such attacks and will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests.”
Austin said the U.S. doesn’t want conflict, but will not hesitate to defend its troops. He also described the strikes as unrelated to the ongoing war in Israel.
