Two convoys consisting of 34 trucks filled with humanitarian aid entered Gaza from the Egyptian border crossing of Rafah over the weekend, delivering food, water, and medical supplies.

UN officials say this is just a fraction of what is needed to support those in Gaza. They report that 100 trucks a day is the minimum requirement. Before the conflict, Gaza was receiving over 400 trucks of aid each day.

These trucks did not carry fuel into the strip, as Israel is concerned that Hamas will seize it and use it to power its attacks. Elsewhere in Gaza, power grids are down, forcing hospital employees to perform surgery using cellphone lights.

UN officials are currently developing a “light” inspection system, where Israel could check the shipments but ensure a continuous flow of aid.
