Former President Donald Trump is slamming his New York civil fraud case as a “scam.” He made those comments in Manhattan Monday morning before entering the New York City Supreme Court.
New York Attorney General Letitia James accuses Trump of inflating his net worth by upwards of $2 million. James wants him to pay a fine of $250 million.
Monday marked the first trial date to see if Trump will have to pay that fine and possibly lose control of his New York businesses. Last week, the presiding judge found Trump liable for “persistent fraud” by overvaluing his assets.
But that was not Trump’s only source of legal trouble.
On Friday, Trump co-defendant Scott Hall became the first in the Georgia RICO case to enter a plea deal, setting the stage for his testimony against the former president. He is one of 18 co-defendants named alongside Trump in the case.
