It seems every day we break a new record at the border.
In September, migrant encounters at the southern border reached the highest monthly totals ever recorded. Border officials reported 260,000 encounters for the month.
Officials say they are coming into contact with anywhere between 10 and 11,000 foreign nationals on a daily basis. And the effects are being felt all across the country.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker says the migrant crisis in Chicago is reaching overwhelming levels. In the last 13 months, over 15,000 migrants have arrived in the city, forcing local officials to house migrants in airport terminals sometimes for weeks at a time.
Writing a letter to the White House, Pritzker called on President Joe Biden to intervene at the border, saying the situation has become “a humanitarian crisis.”
