Discussions between the U.S. and Egypt on allowing refugees from Gaza have stalled.

The U.S. was hoping Egyptian officials would allow people to escape Gaza while also allowing aid through the Rafah Crossing. But Egypt is concerned Israel will not cease its airstrikes in the area and is keeping the crossing closed.

Meanwhile, the King of Jordan is also rejecting the possibility of refugees.

Hundreds of thousands of Gazans have been displaced as Israel continues its aerial assault on the northern part of the region. It’s also believed that between 500 and 600 Americans remain trapped in Gaza.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the U.S. is working with Israel to bring in humanitarian aid. The aid is intended for civilian use, but Blinken says there is a possibility it will be taken by Hamas.

Until now, Israel has imposed a blockade of food, fuel, medical supplies, and more into Gaza, a military tactic Israel will relinquish only in return for the nearly 200 hostages taken by Hamas, including American citizens. It’s believed Hamas will only release the hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.
