Recent shocking developments at a Virginia school are highlighting the consequences of gender ideology madness that has become par for the course in many districts across the country.
Just the News reported this week that the mother of a young teenager is suing a Virginia school district for hiding her daughter’s gender transition from her, a depressing episode that eventually led the 14-year-old child into the arms of a sex trafficker.
According to the report, Appomattox County Public School officials hid Sage Blair’s gender transition from her caretakers, even as she was bullied by her peers for dressing like a boy.
This led Sage to run away from her home in rural Virginia only to be captured by a sex trafficker. The perpetrator took Sage to Washington, D.C., and then to Baltimore, where she was drugged and raped by multiple men, according to the lawsuit.
After the FBI found Sage, she was held in temporary custody at the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services, but she wasn’t given any trauma therapy or medical attention. Sage decided to leave that home for Texas, where she was abused again. Finally, Texas law enforcement tracked her down last January, and she was returned to her mother.
The news comes as Parents Defending Education recently reported that at least 1,040 schools have policies in place that prohibit school officials from disclosing gender transition information to parents. While Sage Blaire’s situation may be unique, it is worth recognizing.
And it all comes back to this: The gender movement started with the acceptance of the LGBT liberation philosophy in public education.
Social critics Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay write that “the very existence of categories of sex, gender, and sexuality” is deemed “oppressive” by those who adhere to this mentality. It is no wonder that educators who advocate for so-called LGBT inclusion believe that kids with abnormal desires should be “liberated” from their parents’ care. This is an effort to level the natural hierarchies in society, such as the relationship between parents and children.
Nevertheless, Scripture is clear that God ordains a mutually beneficial hierarchy between parents and children. The well-known verse Proverbs 22:6 says,
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
The verse makes a generic promise that kids will not depart from that wisdom even when they are older. Likewise, children are called to honor their parents in both the Old and New Testament. Ephesians 6:6 says,
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
But these concepts are not just for the physical world. They are also a reminder of our relationship with God, which is often described as a parent-child relationship. So, there is more than meets the eye when it comes to the so-called children’s liberation movement. As Christians, we are called to dismantle Satan’s lies and protect the vulnerable whenever we are able.
