Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is celebrating his acquittal on 16 impeachment charges, calling the whole thing a “sham.”

Taking to social media on Saturday, Paxton wrote, “Today, the truth prevailed. The truth could not be buried by mudslinging politicians or their powerful benefactors.”

The Texas House impeached Paxton back in May based on allegations that he did favors for campaign backer Nate Paul, who was being investigated by the FBI. The State Senate ultimately voted to acquit Paxton on all counts.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick claims the impeachment process was rushed. He’s now calling on state legislators to amend the state constitution to ensure a fairer process.
