Two years after the United States’ chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Pentagon is requesting new interviews relating to the deadly suicide bombing that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members and 170 Afghans at the Kabul airport.

DOD officials now plan to interview 20 military members who survived the attack, but never gave official testimony. Among those the Pentagon intends to interview is Marine Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews, a sniper who said in a congressional hearing he had the bomber in its sights prior to the attack, but was never given permission to take the shot.

Sgt. Vargas-Andrews lost an arm and a leg in the explosion. He was not interviewed as part of the initial Pentagon investigation.

A CENTCOM spokesman tells the Washington Examiner the sniper’s testimony “contained new information not previously shared by any other witness.” The interview process is expected to begin in the coming days.
