A new survey found that the leaders of mainline Protestant churches are more liberal than their congregants.

Mainline Protestants are some of America’s oldest church denominations. Some examples include the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church, the Episcopal Church, and the American Baptist Churches.

The Public Research Institution found that nearly half of mainline clergy identify with the Democratic Party, but only 30% of their congregants identify with the same.

These clergy are more supportive of LGBTQ rights, more likely to oppose the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and less likely to believe in a cultural war in America.
