The city of Eagle Pass, Texas. is now in a state of emergency after more than 11,000 migrants surged across the border this last week. Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas made the announcement.

The town’s hospitals, police, and fire departments have been overwhelmed in response to the influx. NewsNation reported that the line for processing illegal immigrants Wednesday in Eagle Pass stretched five miles – winding its way back to Mexico.

The latest Border Patrol numbers show that, in 2023 alone, the Del Rio sector of the border has seen almost 320,000 migrant encounters.

Meanwhile, the only migrant shelter in Eagle Pass is run by a local church. The mayor said they’ve been experiencing difficulties with the incoming migrants.

At the same time, the Biden administration announced Wednesday that it will offer temporary legal status to almost half a million Venezuelan migrants in the US, shielding them from deportation and allowing them to work in the country.
