Sparks flew in Milwaukee as eight Republican candidates took to the stage for the first GOP primary debate, attacking Joe Biden’s record and bringing a unified condemnation of the president’s economic policies.

But candidates were less unified on abortion – disagreeing over a federal ban.

Throughout the night, topics shifted from foreign policy to education and the border. But despite his absence, candidates couldn’t escape the looming shadow of former President Donald Trump.
